A Season of Consecrationby Bart HadawayThen Joshua said to the people, "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you." -Joshua 3:5We are in a season of consecration which began July 1 and will run through the end of September (Rosh Hashanah). This season parallels the Jewish holiday in many ways. We are asking the Lord to search us and cleanse us in a powerful way. We are also preparing ourselves for what we believe will be a new season of greater glory. Just as Joshua told the children of Israel that they would be going a way they had never been before, we believe we are coming into a measure of God’s outpouring of grace and glory that we have not seen before. In March of this year, the Lord spoke very clearly to me during worship. He said that the church in America was coming into their finest hour. Right after He said that, He made it very personal to me. He said: Now, believe it! In my heart I have longed for days of revival, days of love, power, and grace such as we read about in the life of Jesus and throughout the book of Acts. I believe we are coming into that season. While these last few years have seen a tremendous increase of God’s glory, I truly believe the best is yet to come. So, as we set ourselves aside to seek the Lord, let’s prepare ourselves to be “vessels of honor” that bring pleasure to the Lord. Second Corinthians 7:1 says that because we have these promises, we are to cleanse ourselves from all filth of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. The promises Paul is talking about are found at the end of the previous chapter. As we separate ourselves from what is unclean, He receives us and our fellowship with Him grows. In cleansing ourselves, it is important to remember that it is not us who are able to atone for our sins. It is that we separate (consecrate) ourselves, by faith receive all that Jesus paid for, and simply appropriate His promises and blessings.
