Have Faith in God

by Lyn Packer

Faith – we use it so much each day in our walk through life, yet we rarely understand this incredible gift we’ve been given. I don’t make any claims to be a theology expert; I am just a simple believer. And maybe that’s where the secret lies – in believing rather than trying to understand.

It’s not so much a lack of faith that stops us from experiencing the fullness of the things of God; rather it is the presence of believed doubt that stops it. We have each been given a measure of faith that is enough for whatever crosses our paths, but we so often allow doubt to take root in our minds and influence our beliefs. Doubt is, in reality, the whisper of the devil bringing a slander against the nature or character of God. We come into agreement with that slander, and doubt is given a foothold. Believed doubt takes root and becomes a beachhead of unbelief in our life, yet so often we don’t even see that we’ve slipped into that place. All the while, God is holding out to us a gift, a gift that, if we take hold of and really allow it to take root in our lives, will radically change the way we walk.

The Bible tells us in Mark 11:22, “Have faith in God.” Some translations say, “Have the faith of God.” Have the faith of God. Think about that for a minute. God has gifted us His faith and He waits to see if we will take hold of it and use it. What is His faith? It is the absolute knowledge of and trust in “who He is.” It’s all His goodness, faithfulness, love, generosity, etc., that He knows is in Himself. It’s God’s supreme confidence in “who He is.” God says to us – you can know the same faith in me that I have. I’m giving you my faith in myself. What a gift! That the Lord God Almighty, who has no self doubts whatsoever because He knows He is truth, love, faithfulness, goodness and many other things, would gift us with that supreme confidence to walk through life. Wow!

Let’s allow the truth of that to permeate our relationship with God and with people. As it does, let’s step out with confidence into our role as ambassadors of the Kingdom of Heaven. We can do so knowing that the faith resident within us is the faith of God. It is the supreme confidence that “God is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do” and “we are who He says we are and can do what He says we can do.”
